Michael Carrick's dream start as Manchester United interim manager continued with another stunning victory, this time away to league leaders Arsenal in a thrilling encounter on Sunday evening.
Carrick started the same team as the fantastic Manchester Derby victory, and while United went behind at the half-hour mark after a scramble in the penalty area led to Lisandro Martinez deflecting the ball past Senne Lammens. However, United responded immediately, and they pressed the Arsenal backline, capitalising on a Martin Zubimendi loose pass that saw Bryan Mbeumo face David Raya, with the Cameroonian going around the goalkeeper before finding the back of the net.
After the break, United came out with a renewed sense of energy, and they took the lead in style with a stunning shot from Patrick Dorgu who linked up well with Bruno Fernandes before finding the net to continue his fine run of form.
Mikel Merino looked to have got Arsenal a point with another scramble, this time from a corner, but Matheus Cunha had other thoughts. The Brazilian made a darting run through the Arsenal midfield, before curling a shot from outside of the box and into the net to make it 3-2 and win it for United.
Here are how the players fared in another sensational weekend:
Senne Lammens 7
Senne Lammens had an all-action display on Sunday, making a couple of good saves to deny Zubimendi and Bukayo Saka. He mostly dealt well with the constant deliveries from Arsenal, but was eventually crowded out for the second Arsenal goal. Frustrated Arsenal.
Diogo Dalot 7
Kept Leandro Trossard relatively quiet, and helped United keep hold of the ball when they needed to do so. Looks much more comfortable at right-back.
Harry Maguire 9
Absolutely sublime. Looked like the best centre-back on the pitch and dealt with everything that came his way. The way he bodied some of the Arsenal players spoke volumes. A deserved Man of the Match award for Maguire, who was clearing every single ball that was swung into the box.
Lisandro Martinez 7
Should have probably been stronger for the opening goal, but recovered to make a number of crucial blocks and interceptions, particularly against Declan Rice. His incisive passing worked wonders.
Luke Shaw 8
Luke Shaw's performances have been consistently impressive over recent weeks. The Englishman kept Bukayo Saka quiet, while also pushed forward to support Dorgu whenever he could. It was another standout display from the left-back, who has become one of the first names on the teamsheet this season.
Casemiro 8
Helped clear danger for United whenever Arsenal tried to deliver from wide, and he was also a calming presence on the ball. Utilised possession very well. In the week where he announced that he will be leaving at the end of the season, this performance served as another key reminder of how good he can be and how he can still perform at the very high level.
Kobbie Mainoo 8
When United started to get the ball to Kobbie Mainoo, they got more in the game. He linked up very well with the rest of the midfield and was a constant thorn in Arsenal's midfield, pushing forward to help out Fernandes and Mbeumo. Really efficient with the ball and got the assist for Cunha's winner.
Amad 6
Not his most prolific game, with United often looking more dangerous down the other side. His corners were spot on, and he worked tirelessly going up and down the pitch.
Bruno Fernandes 7
A typical up and down game from Fernandes. He was sloppy with a couple of his passes and probably should have been sharper with one of his chances in the first half. However, he went up a level in the second half, and started to pick up more dangerous positions. Got the assist for Dorgu's stunner, and helped Mbeumo with the press.
Patrick Dorgu 8
Another fantastic performance from the Dane. While he had a relatively weak defensive header for the Arsenal opener, but he more than made up for that error. He scored an absolute worldie, leaving David Raya with no chance, putting United ahead and continuing his fine run of form. Hopefully he is not injured after pulling up late on.
Bryan Mbeumo 8
Big game player. The Cameroonian has now found the net against Liverpool, City and Arsenal, as he continues to shine on the big occasion. Got a gift after Zubimendi gave him the ball, but he still did really well to go around the goalkeeper and tuck it into the net. Worked his socks off and made a couple of decisive runs. Gave Gabriel and Saliba a couple of issues.
Substitutes
Matheus Cunha 8
Came on and absolutely rose to the occasion. Took up plenty of nice positions and came up with an absolute peach of a goal to win it for United. Held on to the ball really well in the closing stages to see out the win.
Benjamin Sesko 6
Not much time for him to make an impact, but actually had a hand in the winner by holding up the ball for Mainoo to pass to Cunha.
Noussair Mazraoui 6
Came on late on, and helped United see out the win.
Head Coach - Michael Carrick 8
What can we say? Carrick has absolutely turned things around for United in the space of 10 days. He opted for the same team that did so well in the Manchester Derby, and while United started off relatively slow, they grew into the game and did so well to hold Arsenal off. Some moments of brilliance won it for United, but the players look much more free under his management. Made the right substitutions yet again. With the way things are going, it is going to be very, very hard to overlook him for the permanent job.
