Manchester United dropped points against a relegation-threatened side yet again on Wednesday night, with a 2-2 draw away at Burnley in Darren Fletcher's first game in charge.
United started with a back four and struggled to get to grips with the game at first, and they went behind after 13 minutes when Bashir Humphreys' cross was deflected off Ayden Heaven before looping over Senne Lammens and into the net.
United could not draw level before the break, despite having a goal disallowed and having multiple attempts on goal.
The equaliser came in the 50th minute after Benjamin Sesko connected with a delicate Bruno Fernandes pass, before the Slovenian put United ahead after getting on the end off an excellent Patrick Dorgu cross. However, Burnley somehow got back in the game, when Jaidon Anthony fired a curled shot past Lammens.
The home side barely threatened the United backline, while Fletcher's side piled the pressure on the Burnley defence, yet they could not get the vital winning goal. Shea Lacey came very close when he hit a stunning shot from long range, yet it hit the bar.
Here is how the players fared on Wednesday:
Senne Lammens 6
Did not have much to do on the night. He tried to come and claim the cross from Humphreys and was beaten by the deflection. Powerless for the second goal.
Diogo Dalot 5
Good in possession, but did not offer much offensively, apart from some crosses that were either blocked or not finished off.
Ayden Heaven 6
Desperately unlucky for the deflected cross, yet probably should have made himself bigger. Got more aggressive and was showing authority on the ball.
Lisandro Martinez 5
Probably should have done better to close off Anthony for the second Burnley goal, leaving the winger too much space before the strike. Slowed the game down too often at times.
Luke Shaw 7
Back at left-back, and he showed his quality there. Showed promising signs when linking up with Dorgu, making some clever overlapping runs. Probably a mainstay in the team for the time being.
Manuel Ugarte 7
Casemiro 4
Poor and very slow. Watched Humphreys run off him for the opener, got booked, and did not pick up the pace as the game wore on. Should have come off much earlier.
Bruno Fernandes 7
Returned to the team after some time out, and he showed why United missed him so much. Produced a stunning pass for Sesko for the equaliser, and also hit the post with a smart finish. Highlights how important he is for the team that when he came off, United conceded.
Patrick Dorgu 7
Started on the left wing and was a totally different player. Gave Kyle Walker a terrible time and was looking to drive forward whenever he could. Picked out a perfect cross for Sesko's second.
Matheus Cunha 5
One of the Brazilian's quietest matches in a United shirt. Found it difficult to get on the ball on the right wing and could not influence the match.
Benjamin Sesko 8
Finally got on the scoresheet again. He was having shot after shot and was very unlucky not to come away with more than a brace. Held the ball up well, and did excellently to finish past Dubravka on both occasions. Will need to continue this form in front of goal as the opposition gets tougher.
Substitutes
Leny Yoro 6
Brought on for Heaven and did well.
Mason Mount 6
Tried to initiate the press, but could not influence the game in the same way that Fernandes did.
Kobbie Mainoo 6
Brought on with the objective of finding cutting-edge passes, and while he did on certain occasions, he could not push United on for the win.
Joshua Zirkzee 5
Came on as United chased the game, yet he looked clunky at times.
Shea Lacey 7
Almost made an instant impact, hitting the bar with a wonderful strike just seconds after coming on. Also had another shot late on when he arguably should have passed.
Head Coach - Darren Fletcher 6
Had it all to do with such a short turnover from Ruben Amorim's dismissal to this match. Reverted to a back four and United dominated the whole game, but he will be understandably frustrated that his debut in the dugout finished in a draw. Made some intriguing changes. Confirmed that he will also manage the Brighton FA Cup tie, so he will have some more time to work with the team for that encounter.
