Manchester United suffered their 15th Premier League loss of the season after a goal against the run of play against Wolves was enough for the visitors to snatch the win.
Ruben Amorim said on Thursday that he will be fielding a rotated side for this encounter, and while he rotated the team, he still gave starts to many of the more experienced players.
The first-half was very timid, with neither side really threatening one another's goals.
United improved a lot in the second-half, and they started to create opportunity after opportunity, mainly with Alejandro Garnacho being the creator. Rasmus Hojlund had an opportunity to square it after making a brilliant turn, yet he was dispossessed, and on another occasion, Garnacho fired a low cross that went just past the Dane.
Mason Mount had a golden chance to put United ahead, after a ball was crossed to him, yet he fired it over the bar.
The decisive moment came in the 77th minute, as Wolves were awarded a free-kick, and Pablo Sarabia curled it excellently into the back of the net, leaving Andre Onana with no chance to get it.
United tried to attack in the closing stages, yet they could not breach the Wolves defence, and it ended in a 1-0 defeat.
Here are our player ratings:
Andre Onana 6
He was practically a spectator for large parts of the game, with his distribution being tested yet again. Had no chance with Sarabia's free-kick, which was Wolves' first shot on target.
Noussair Mazraoui 7
Solid with his duels and made a number of passes to link up going forward. Did not have much to do otherwise.
Victor Lindelof 6
Captained United after Bruno Fernandes dropped to the bench for a well-deserved rest. The Swede led the backline well and kept the Wolves forwards quiet. Taken off for Leny Yoro following the goal.
Tyler Fredricson 7
Made his senior debut and did not look out of place whatsoever. He was composed on the ball and looked solid going into the tackle. Confident display from the 20-year-old.
Patrick Dorgu 6
Started the game at right wing-back and he looked better than he did on Thursday. While he was not his adventurous self going forward, he managed to keep Matheus Cunha quiet.
Manuel Ugarte 7
Followed up his goal on Thursday night with a solid performance on Sunday. Won plenty of his challenges and was his usual, combative self. Substituted to get some minutes of rest.
Christian Eriksen 6
Took a large number of set-pieces in the first-half, and it was ironic that he would be the one to concede the set-piece in the second-half that got Wolves their goal. His legs have clearly gone, but he did produce moments of quality that almost got United a goal.
Harry Amass 8
Clearly United's best performer on the day. Got his first senior start at Old Trafford and his quality was clear from the very start. He was physically up for the challenge and made a number of darting runs forward. Up for the fight, and never looked out of sorts.
Kobbie Mainoo 6
Started in an advanced role again and was close to finding the goal with a curling effort, just like he did against Lyon, but the ball went inches wide. Got more minutes in the tank as he continues his recovery.
Alejandro Garnacho 7
Wolves constantly looked to foul him whenever he got the ball, but he continued to mount attack after attack. Should have had at least one assist after setting up Hojlund and Mount. His teammates' finishing let him down today.
Rasmus Hojlund 5
A game that can only be summed up by "nearly" for Hojlund. Had a very quiet first-half, like the rest of the team, and then the spotlight was on him during the second. Made a great turn in the halfway line before running through on goal, yet he did not see the unmarked Mainoo at the back post, and the chance turned into nothing. He was inches away from making a contact with an excellent Garnacho cross. Seems like he cannot find the net whatever he does. Desperately needs an experienced striker to take some of the goalscoring burden off him.
Substitutions
Mason Mount 5
Lively when he came on, constantly looking to get on the ball. However, he missed a glorious chance to score with a left-footed finish that went miles over the bar. Clattered into the Wolves goalkeeper for another opportunity.
Diogo Dalot 6
Came on and barely did anything wrong. He was left fuming after a clear corner was given as a goal-kick.
Bruno Fernandes 6
Got a very rare and much-needed rest after playing so many minutes for United. Came on in the second-half and found it difficult to get into the game, but looked to create as much as he could.
Chido Obi 5
Came on for Hojlund, and while he linked up well with his teammates, he struggled to get into the positions needed to get a goal. More minutes in the tank for the young forward though.
Leny Yoro 5
Brought on for Lindelof in the final few minutes and looked accomplished as always.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 5
His full focus will now be on the UEFA Europa League, especially after the incredible result on Thursday. However, 15 defeats in a Premier League season is simply not good enough for United, and he needs to find a way to get his side scoring consistently. While a potential Europa League title would mean the world for United right now, Amorim's side can still finish as low as 17th in the Premier League.
