Manchester United fumbled the opportunity secure their second Premier League win of the season after conceding a late goal against 10-men Tottenham to only earn a point at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick opted to start Amad on the right, putting Bryan Mbeumo up front and Matheus Cunha back on the left, while Leny Yoro started at right-back.

However, United were very poor in the first half, failing to lay a glove on Tottenham. Had the away side been more decisive with their finishing, they would have gone into the break in front, with a series of opportunities falling to Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher, Mohammed Kudus and Savio.

The home side upped their game after the break, playing the ball much quicker, especially once Carrick made a triple change in the 60th minute, bringing on Carlos Baleba, Diogo Dalot and Joshua Zirkzee. United took the lead through a well-worked move midway through the half, as Cunha found Mbeumo, who superbly tucked the ball into the back of the net.

Spurs were reduced to 10 men moments later, after Rodrigo Bentancur headbutted Luke Shaw, prompting a scuffle in the middle of the pitch. United looked set to claim all three points, but they once again went deeper and deeper when facing a team with a player less. Sandro Tonali capitalised, swinging a cross into the penalty area, with Solanke outmuscling Lisandro Martinez and nodding the ball past Senne Lammens.

As a result, United have now picked up just six points from six league games this season, with just one win so far.

Here are how the players fared in another underwhelming display:

Senne Lammens 5

He got off to a sloppy start, gifting the ball to Tottenham early on before doing well to save from that same opportunity. Settled down and made some good saves. Arguably should have done better for the late equaliser.

Leny Yoro 7

Started at right-back following his impressive France debut, and while he was not perfect, he made a series of impressive challenges and was United's best player in the first half. Looked to inject some quality, but his teammates let him down on more than one occasion. Battled hard to get United on the front foot.

Harry Maguire 5

Sloppy and leggy throughout most of the match, finding it difficult to deal with the acres of space that Spurs had to work with. Outrun.

Lisandro Martinez 3

Tottenham constantly targeted him, utilising Solanke's physicality against the Argentine. The away side repeatedly found space in and around him, helped by the fact that he often went wide in order to deliver passes, which were not happening in the first half. Poor throughout most of the match, highlighted by the goal in the dying stags of the game.

Luke Shaw 6

Found it difficult to handle Kudus early on, yet he quickly settled into the game and found his groove, defending very well against Savio. Offered some options going forward, and also got booked for reacting to Bentancur's over-the-top challenge.

Kobbie Mainoo 6

Had to constantly fight to get the ball back as United repeatedly lost possession. Not at his best, yet he still did better than most of his teammates. Needs to get a good run of games alongside Baleba.

Youri Tielemans 3

A really poor game from the Belgian. Did not look at it from the very start, losing possession multiple times in dangerous areas, taking too much time on the ball. While his quality on the ball is undeniable, his partnership with Mainoo is far too slow and easy to get at.

Amad 6

Worked hard to try to make things happen on his return to the team after a significant period out due to injury. He had a few moments of quality on the break, yet he still needs to get going, especially on the ball.

Bruno Fernandes 4

Looks a shadow of himself. Did not seem fully fit and he struggled to get into the game, failing to make an accurate pass in the Tottenham half in the first 20 minutes or so. Could not make an impact. United need to get him firing, as the team plays so much better when he is in form.

Matheus Cunha 5

Back on the left wing, yet he was not in the game for large parts of it. He worked hard in order to try and win the ball back, yet he was visibly frustrated with the way the game was going. Did very well to find Mbeumo for the goal.

Bryan Mbeumo 7

United's best and most dangerous forward yet again. A real threat on the counter, yet was starved of service during the first half. Took his chance excellently, finding a pocket of space to slot the ball into the net. Pushed forward in order to create opportunities, but his teammates seemed to be on completely different wavelengths. Looked very bright in the second set of 45 minutes.

Substitutes

Diogo Dalot 6

Brought on for Yoro, and actually showed some quality going forward. Offered some more width in the play than the Frenchman, which is understandable given that Yoro is not a natural full-back.

Carlos Baleba 7

Brought on for his debut, and made an immediate impact. Brought a sense of energy to a team that badly needed it, and also looked very calm on the ball when others did not. Needs to start alongside Mainoo.

Joshua Zirkzee 6

Came on and actually showcased his quality on the ball, while also working hard. Still needs to add that touch of class in the final third to get on the scoresheet.

Head Coach: Michael Carrick 5

A very, very frustrating performance yet again. Carrick made some necessary changes to the team, yet United were very slow and sluggish throughout the whole first half, while also being open defensively, almost echoing the performances against Hull City and Brighton. Carrick needs to sort out the team's shape and pace of play quickly, as United have become predictable and too easy to play against. The fact that points have been dropped against 10 men yet again is inexcusable.
