Manchester United returned to winning ways at Old Trafford after an entertaining 3-2 win against Ipswich Town, despite being down to 10 men for over 45 minutes.
United got off to a horrible start, as just four minutes into the game, a mix-up at the back between Patrick Dorgu and Andre Onana left Jaden Philogene with an open goal, and the winger tapped it into the net.
The home side were struggling massively in the opening stages of the match, with them unable to settle down.
It took a touch of class from Bruno Fernandes to get United back into it, as he fired a free-kick with plenty of pace in the box in the 22nd minute, and it was flicked into the net by Sam Morsy for an own goal to level the scoring.
Just four minutes later, Matthijs de Ligt put United ahead, after a scramble in the box from a Fernandes corner ended up with the ball falling to the feet of the Dutchman, who proceeded to smash it into the net.
United were in the ascendancy from that point on, looking very comfortable and threatening going forward. However, it all changed in the 43rd minute, as Dorgu was sent off for going over the top of the ball and flying into Omari Hutchinson. Ipswich scored straight after thanks to a Philogene effort that somehow went past the defence and Onana, setting up a nervy second-half.
After the break, United immediately got themselves back in front, with a corner from Fernandes being met wonderfully by Harry Maguire, who thumped it into the net.
United had to contain plenty of pressure from Ipswich from that point on, but Ruben Amorim's side held out for the 3-2 win, earning just their sixth Premier League home victory of the season.
Here are our player ratings:
Andre Onana 2
An absolute disaster from the goalkeeper yet again. He should not have stepped out of his goal for the opener, and could have done so much better for Philogene's second goal. His indecisiveness is causing doubt in the backline, and it is not helping the team whatsoever. He improved in the second-half, but he could have cost United the points today.
Matthijs de Ligt 8
A colossal performance from the Dutchman after a tough few games recently. De Ligt put United ahead with an instinctive finish, and then produced an excellent display, winning plenty of challenges and making a number of blocks.
Harry Maguire 7
A much-improved performance from Maguire, dealing with Liam Delap well to keep him quiet. Scored the winner with an excellent header, proving to be a big-game player yet again for United.
Leny Yoro 7
A solid display from Yoro, looking very good in possession and out of it. He will be a key player for United in the future.
Diogo Dalot 6
He had a woeful start to the game, misplacing a number of passes and having a series of heavy touches. However, he grew into the game when he switched to the left after the sending off, and showed plenty of spirit and grit to win his challenges and offer something going forward for United.
Bruno Fernandes 9
A man of the match performance from the United captain. Covered every blade of grass and all three of United's goals came from his set-pieces, putting the ball into the danger zone. In a deeper role, he seems to be more effective, with him having more time on the ball, allowing him to control the pace of the game. Where would United be without Bruno?
Manuel Ugarte 6
Another resolute display from the Uruguayan. Ugarte won plenty of balls in midfield and he held on to possession very well. Seems like him and Fernandes is the best midfield partnership going forward.
Patrick Dorgu 3
A horror show from the young wingback. Miscommunication between him and Onana led to the opening goal, yet after that he seemed the most threatening player United had, making a series of runs down the left wing, and looked as combative as ever. However, he got sent off before half-time for a very poor challenge on Hutchinson, signalling a horrible full Old Trafford debut for Dorgu.
Joshua Zirkzee 6
Zirkzee produced another tidy display, looking very good on the ball, while also helping United get out of the defensive shape with his hold-up play. He was isolated in the second-half, especially when Rasmus Hojlund went off, but he put in a good shift for 93 minutes. Great to see him applauded off as he was substituted.
Alejandro Garnacho 5
Started very brightly and was linking up well with Dorgu on the left. However, he ended up being the unfortunate player to be substituted to make way for Noussair Mazraoui after the red card.
Rasmus Hojlund 4
Hojlund struggled to get into the game, and while he continuously pressed the defenders, he got no reward from it. He only had 12 touches before being substituted, and should have probably done better with most of those touches.
Substitutions
Noussair Mazraoui 6
Solid as ever, and did not have much to do with Ipswich's attacks mainly coming down the other flank. Booked for shoving Delap after an altercation with Ugarte.
Casemiro 6
Came on to shore up the midfield as Ipswich piled on the pressure. He made a number of crucial interceptions and while his passing was not that accurate, he did what he was brought on to do.
Christian Eriksen 5
Brought on deep into stoppage time.
Victor Lindelof 5
Like Eriksen, he was substituted with just a few minutes left to play.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 6
The errors he witnessed in the first-half would have made him furious. However, he made a number of tactical adjustments after the red card and the team seemed to settle. Definitely a step forward for the manager at such a crucial time of the season.
United's attention now turns to the Emirates FA Cup, as we welcome Fulham to Old Trafford on Sunday.
