Manchester United target Viktor Gyokeres has been left frustrated by the Sporting CP hierarchy for not respecting his wishes to move away.
The Swedish striker has been a long-term target for United ever since Ruben Amorim was appointed, and his impressive goalscoring record has made him a name that has been heavily linked with the club given United's desire for a forward.
According to reports, United seem to be the main club interested in him, yet given their moves for Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Red Devils will need to be careful with their spending and also efficient with their sales.
New reports from Portuguese media outlet Record are claiming that Gyokeres is pushing for a move away from the club, with his relationship with the Sporting board now under question.
The reports state that Gyokeres is 'furious' with Sporting's hierarchy, as the Swedish international discovered that President Frederico Varandas will not be respecting the existing gentlemen agreement for his sale.
Sporting have seemingly gone back on their word to sell him for €60 million plus €10 million in add-ons.
Instead, they are now demanding clubs to pay €80 million.
That high price tag has made it more difficult for interested clubs to push through with a move, especially United, who are publicly very tight with their funds.
Additionally, Gyokeres has also removed Sporting from his Instagram bio, adding further fuel to the fire.
Given United's main forward target, Liam Delap, completed a move to Chelsea, the United hierarchy will have plenty of work to reassess their options, and Gyokeres seems like the main option on their radar.
The 27-year-old has had another brilliant campaign, recording a remarkable tally of 54 goals and 13 assists in 52 games in all competitions. Additionally, he also scored nine goals in just six UEFA Nations League matches with Sweden.
United scored just 44 goals in the Premier League last season, a woeful tally, averaging just over a goal every game. Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee both struggled for goals, with the Dane failing to find the back of the net for most of the matches, while Zirkzee transitioned from a forward to more of a No.10.
If United are going to push for a move for Gyokeres, then they will need to raise funds through some of their sales.
The main candidates to leave the club include Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho, as well as others such as Hojlund and Andre Onana.
It remains to be seen how many players United will be able to offload this summer.
