Manchester United returned to winning ways on Saturday with a determined performance at Stamford Bridge, as Matheus Cunha's goal proved to be enough to secure a 1-0 win away against Chelsea.

Chelsea started the stronger of the two sides, hitting the woodwork and creating plenty of chances, but United were still dangerous on the counter. In the 44th minute, Bruno Fernandes made a darting run down the right, before finding Cunha, who rifled the ball into the back of the net.

In the second half, United dug deep and defended admirably, keeping Chelsea out, despite having a much-changed back four. Despite the home side's pressure, United held on, and they secured three vital points.

Here are how United players fared at Stamford Bridge:

Senne Lammens 7

Senne Lammens had a relatively steady game overall. While he possibly could have done better with an Enzo Fernandez shot in the first half, he then grew in confidence and kept his cool whenever called upon.

Diogo Dalot 8

One of United's standout players. Dealt with the potential threat that Alejandro Garnacho possesses, and handled him very well. Completely stifled Chelsea's attacks down his side, and offered a good outlet going forward.

Noussair Mazraoui 7

Had to slot in at centre-back due to the limited option available, and he filled in very well. Combative both in the air and on the ground, and composed on the ball.

Ayden Heaven 7

Came into the game knowing he was United's only available centre-back, and he was off to a relatively mixed start. Made a brilliant challenge on Liam Delap, but also committed a foul on Cole Palmer right on the edge of the penalty area. He was phenomenal in the second half though, looking calm and assured, putting his body on the line.

Luke Shaw 8

Brilliant, just like Dalot. Handled Pedro Neto and Palmer down his side very well, and he showed his experience, choosing when to venture forward to help his teammates. Controlled the final few minutes well.

Casemiro 7

Made a couple of key defensive headers and interceptions, and looked solid next to Kobbie Mainoo. Could have dealt with some duels better, but also proved to be vital in the United box.

Kobbie Mainoo 8

Recalled into the side after missing last week's match due to injury. Showed how badly he was missed, looking very solid defensively, but also linked up with the rest of the midfield very well. His best game defensively this season.

Bryan Mbeumo 6

Looked relatively lively, and was constantly looking to break forward and support his teammates. His influence gradually dropped over time.

Bruno Fernandes 8

Absolute class. Produced a superb assist to set up Cunha, darting past the opposition defence before finding the Brazilian with an excellent cross. Got the team over the line by dictating the pace of the play, and also won some crucial fouls. 18 Premier League assists now, edging closer to the record.

Matheus Cunha 7

He did not have his best game, but still prove to be a matchwinner. Finished off from a Fernandes cross excellently, and that game him the confidence he needed to push forward, proving to be a thorn in Chelsea's defence.

Benjamin Sesko 6

Contributed significantly to Cunha's goal by occupying Moises Caicedo, not allowing the Chelsea man to stop the cross. He was not involved much throughout the game, and while he held the ball up well at times, on other occasions he simply gave it away too often.

Substitutes

Mason Mount 6

Ran tirelessly on his return to Stamford Bridge and helped United get the win over the line.

Amad 6

Did not have much time to make an impact, but he constantly looked to track his marker back.

Joshua Zirkzee 6

Brought on very late on, but still showed hints of his qualities, particularly in terms of holding the ball up and occupying Chelsea's defence.

Head Coach - Michael Carrick 8

It cannot be understated how much of a big game this was for Carrick. Coming off the back of a very disappointing result at home to Leeds United, with just one natural centre-back available, Carrick opted to allow his team to drop deep and looked to inflict sucker punches on the counter. Worked very well and
