Manchester United could not get a win over the line against West Ham United, falling to a late equaliser to come away with just a point on Thursday night.

Ruben Amorim was forced into a couple of changes, particularly starting Ayden Heaven ahead of Matthijs de Ligt due to the Dutchman suffering from a knock.

United started sloppy, not looking comfortable on the ball, but gradually grew into the game and then had the better of the opportunities in the first half.

However, United had to wait until midway through the second half to get the opener, as Diogo Dalot received the ball from an attempted strike from Casemiro, with the Portuguese full-back firing a shot past Alphonse Areola to put United in front.

United seemed to fall into the same rhythm they had at the start of the first half following the goal, slowing the game down and making a number of loose passes. Eventually, West Ham got their equaliser from a corner, when Soungoutou Magassa got on the end of a rebound after Noussair Mazraoui had cleared the ball from off the line.

The home side tried to push in search of a winner, but ultimately squandered the limited opportunities they had at the end, and the match finished level.

Here are our player ratings from the disappointing draw:

Senne Lammens 6

Had a miskick in the first half, but aside from that, he was solid and largely untroubled. Could not do much with West Ham's equaliser.

Noussair Mazraoui 7

Probably one of United's best performers on the day. The team looked much more solid down his side, and the West Ham attackers did not have much joy from him. Made a number of crucial blocks and interceptions, and was also sharp to clear the ball from off the line, but was unlucky that it fell to a West Ham forward.

Ayden Heaven 4

Amorim handed Heaven his first Premier League start of the season, and it was not a convincing performance whatsoever. He got booked very early on, and Callum Wilson seemed to toy with him at times. Hooked off at half-time.

Luke Shaw 6

Made full use of his experience and defended very well, also offering a killer ball for United's more advanced players.

Amad 6

Constantly looked to make things happen, with United repeatedly looking for him in the first half. However, his influence died down after West Ham's equaliser, and was eventually marked out of the game.

Casemiro 5

Not his usual composed self. He was rather sloppy and careless on the ball, particularly in the first half, and while he got an assist, he needs to perform better.

Bruno Fernandes 5

Showcased an excellent range of passing during the whole match, looking to distribute the ball to either wings. However, he squandered two huge opportunities toward the end of the game, being uncharacteristically rash in front of goal.

Diogo Dalot 6

Found it difficult to contain Aaron Wan-Bissaka who was having a stellar game. Gradually grew into the game and started to use his physicality to his advantage. Got United's goal with a tidy finish, but was subbed off minutes later.

Bryan Mbeumo 5

Seemed like the player United were mostly looking for - together with Amad - in order to get a chance on goal. Forced a brilliant stop from Areola, but he could not get into the game other than that, and his touches seemed strangely off.

Matheus Cunha 5

Not at his best, despite having a couple of neat touches. Seemed off the pace and was subsequently substituted.

Joshua Zirkzee 6

Joshua Zirzee came very close to following up his goal in the weekend with another on Thursday, but his attempt was cleared from off the line by Wan-Bissaka. He linked up pretty well with the rest of the team, making a number of impressive passes. His influence quickly dropped after the United goal, as he found it difficult to get the better of the West Ham backline.

Substitutes:

Leny Yoro 6

Came on for Heaven at half-time, and looked much better than he did away to Crystal Palace. Struggled with some of West Ham's long balls, but was relatively solid otherwise.

Patrick Dorgu 5

Looked to bomb forward whenever he had the chance, but could not get the better of Wan-Bissaka.

Manuel Ugarte 5

Came on with the hope of seeing out the win, but could not do so. While he kept hold of the ball well, he slowed the game down significantly, lacking that killer pass to the forwards, opting to pass it sideways, much to the frustration of the United fans.

Mason Mount 6

Did not have much of an opportunity to make his mark, but looked sharp whenever he had touches on the ball.

Lisandro Martinez 5

Brought on late for Shaw.

Manager - Ruben Amorim 5

A very frustrating night for Amorim, with United failing to hold on to another lead. United seemed to start very slow, almost like the terrible Everton performance from last month, and while they recovered, they then fell into the habit of slowing the game down again. Amorim's decision to start Heaven did not really work, with him finding it difficult against Wilson. While some of the substitutions were justified, such as Yoro for Heaven and Mount for Cunha, others seemed too defensive and lacked the quality to see the game out.
