Manchester United recorded their 16th Premier League loss of the season after being beaten 4-3 by Brentford in an entertaining game on Sunday.
Mason Mount put United ahead in the 14th minute after getting on the end of a cross from Alejandro Garnacho, yet United's lead was short-lived, as Brentford replied in the 27th minute, with a cross deflecting off Luke Shaw and going into the net past Altay Bayindir.
Brentford turned it around in the 33rd minute with a thumping header from Kevin Schade, capitalising on a numerical advantage as Matthijs de Ligt was down injured. The Dutchman was forced off on his first start since the start of April.
The Bees came to life midway through the second-half, as Schade got his second of the game, before Yoane Wissa made it 4-1, practically putting the game to bed.
However, United had a late flurry of goals, as Garnacho fired a wonderful strike from range into the top corner, and Amad Diallo had a shot find its way into the net. Yet United's fightback came too late, and Ruben Amorim's side could not snatch an equaliser.
Here are how the United players did on Sunday:
Altay Bayindir 4
Came in for Andre Onana yet again, and he struggled just like he did at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago. He was constantly finding it difficult to come out for crosses and struggled with his ball distribution yet again. A clear indicator as to why Onana is starting ahead of him in crucial games.
Tyler Fredricson 5
He was good on the ball and managed to handle some of Brentford's forwards running at him pretty well. Yet he was found wanting aerially, with Brentford capitalising on his lack of physique and experience in some of their goals.
Matthijs de Ligt 5
Started off well, yet he went down injured in the first-half, so soon after making his return to first-team action. Disappointing.
Luke Shaw 4
Started as captain and he was not at it on many occasions. The ball deflected off him for Brentford's first goal, and he was rather shaky with his passing. Substituted at half-time for Leny Yoro.
Patrick Dorgu 4
One of his worst games in a United shirt so far, with his defending being underwhelming and did not offer much going forward. Expectedly came off for Amad Diallo at half-time ahead of the UEFA Europa League Semi-Final on Thursday.
Manuel Ugarte 7
One of United's standout performers throughout the game. Bullied Brentford players off the ball and was covering every blade of grass. Got an assist for the Amad goal, capping off another solid display from the Uruguayan.
Kobbie Mainoo 6
Pretty creative with his play, providing Garnacho with the pass that led to the Argentine crossing for Mount. Yet his influence faded as the match wore on.
Harry Amass 5
A tough day out for the young wingback. Struggled to deal with Bryan Mbeumo in the first-half, yet improved following the break. Still has plenty of room to grow, especially with him getting more minutes.
Alejandro Garnacho 7
Alongside Ugarte, he was confidently United's best player on the day. Provided a perfect ball to Mount, yet he also squandered a chance in the first-half, completely missing the ball. In the second-half he became increasingly threatening, looking to always run at the Brentford defenders. Scored a sensational goal, and at time crossed the ball without the other United players making the right run.
Mason Mount 6
His second goal for United came on his second trip to Brentford in a United shirt. Made an excellent run to connect with Garnacho's cross. However, he could have had another goal with some of the opportunities presented to him. Came off before the hour, getting more minutes in the tank.
Chido Obi 4
Struggled to get in the game and was being bullied by the Brentford backline. A clear indication that he is still too young to be leading the line for United, but at least some more minutes will help his development. Made a fine turn before his shot was blocked in the second-half.
Substitutions:
Harry Maguire 6
Came on much earlier than Amorim probably would have wanted, yet he was solid throughout and handled himself pretty well.
Leny Yoro 6
Brought on at half-time, and was easily United's standout defender on the day.
Amad Diallo 7
Came in for Dorgu at half-time, and immediately showed how much United missed him. Looked bright and was constantly looking to create chances. Got a goal late on.
Christian Eriksen 6
His introduction was met by a mixed reception from Brentford fans, yet he handled himself well on the day. While his legs have gone, he showed his quality on the ball with an excellent pass to Amass.
Victor Lindelof 5
Brought on very late on and was assured in his play.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 6
Rotated the team a lot ahead of a big second-leg against Athletic Club. There were signs that some of the players were becoming more accustomed to the system, but many of the non-regulars found it difficult to adapt. His Premier League record is atrocious now, but these games will be important for him to assess who should be in next season's squad.
