Manchester United booked a place in Bilbao for the UEFA Europa League Final after seeing off Athletic Club at Old Trafford on Thursday.
United came into the game with a three-goal lead following the brilliant display at the Estadio de San Mames last week, having one foot in the Final. But Athletic Club started off strong, and they wanted to take the game to United.
The visitors got a goal in the 31st minute thanks a fantastic strike from Mikel Jauregizar, putting United under pressure. Athletic Club continued to push forward, with United struggling to get a hold of the game.
The game changed dramatically in the second-half, as Ruben Amorim made a triple substitution, bringing on Luke Shaw, Mason Mount, and Amad Diallo. This spurred the team on and Mount got United level on the night with a brilliant curling effort that nestled into the net in the 72nd minute.
It was all United from that point on, and the home side went in front after a Bruno Fernandes free-kick found Casemiro, who stroked a header past the goalkeeper to make it 2-1. Rasmus Hojlund got in on the goals after some tidy work from Leny Yoro and Patrick Dorgu, before Amad laid it on a plate to the Dane.
Mount sealed the victory with a stunning goal from near the halfway line after Julen Agirrezabala's clearance went straight at him.
As a result, United won 7-1 on aggregate, and will now face Tottenham on 21st May at the Estadio de San Mames, in what will be a crucial game in United's season.
Here are our player ratings:
Andre Onana 6
Immediately wanted to slow the game down and tried to hoof the ball up whenever he had the opportunity to do so. Got a hand on Jauregizar's strike, yet he could not keep it out. Other than that, he was largely untroubled.
Victor Lindelof 4
A rather nervy performance from the Swede, playing United into trouble on a couple of occasions. Matthijs de Ligt definitely comes in for him if he is fit for the Final.
Harry Maguire 5
Made a sloppy pass that resulted in Athletic's goal, yet picked himself up after and was ok at the back.
Leny Yoro 7
The best player in the whole backline, looking comfortable in and out of possession. Made a number of brilliant runs forward and got the assist for Mount's opening goal. Quickly becoming United's best defender.
Noussair Mazraoui 5
Got booked early on and was finding it difficult to handled the Athletic wingers at times. Made a series of crucial interventions though, and his decision-making on the ball is brilliant.
Casemiro 6
Not his best display on the European stage, with him finding it difficult to get a foothold on the game and to handle the opposition midfielders. However, he was a nuisance in the box yet again, and he scored to ease the pressure off United.
Manuel Ugarte 5
Another game where Ugarte was great off the ball, and poor on it. Seemed to be chasing shadows at times. Rightly substituted.
Patrick Dorgu 6
Made a number of excellent runs, especially in the first-half, yet his decision-making sometimes let him down. A constant threat to the Athletic backline though.
Alejandro Garnacho 4
Cut a frustrated figure and squandered two big opportunities in the first-half, first by taking the ball too far forward, and another by lobbing the ball wide. Subbed off in the second-half.
Bruno Fernandes 6
Wasteful and was completely out of the game in the first-half. But he improved in the second-half and provided a sense of calm towards the end. Got the assist for Casemiro's goal.
Rasmus Hojlund 6
Led the line well in the first-half, always looking to profit from the loose balls and was constantly in the minds of the Athletic defenders. Went in and out of the game in the second-half, but kept trying and got a goal to continue boosting his confidence.
Substitutions:
Amad Diallo 8
Made an instant impact, being ready to take the Athletic defenders on. Made a number of crafty touches and got the assist for Hojlund's goal.
Mason Mount 9
Instilled a sense of intensity and was determined to make an impact. Found the net brilliantly with his opener for his first goal at Old Trafford, before getting a second in stoppage time from a very long way out. Comfortably his best performance in a United shirt, and could be the turning point for him at the club.
Luke Shaw 6
Came on and looked solid, making robust challenges that got United the ball again.
Harry Amass 5
He was a late substitute but actually came close to scoring.
Kobbie Mainoo 5
Came on late on, and provided some neat touches that helped ease United to the win.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 7
Possibly started with a team that was too defensive, knowing that United needed to be resilient to go through. He made a number of brave changes to provide the team with some energy, and it worked excellently, with the triple substitution working wonders. His faith in Mount was rightfully repaid.
