Manchester United saw their UEFA Europa League campaign end in horrific fashion after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham in the Final at the Estadio de San Mames on Wednesday.
The match was very even at the start, with United looking sharp on the ball but also shaky at the back.
Spurs took the lead right before the break after Pape Sarr's cross was not dealt with by Luke Shaw, falling to Brennan Johnson who tapped it into the net.
United dominated the second-half, pinning Spurs back in their own half.
Guglielmo Vicario mishandled the ball, with it falling to Rasmus Hojlund, whose header looped over everyone but was cleared from off the line by Micky van de Ven.
United continued to attack, but a combination of resilient defending from Tottenham, some wonderful stops from Vicario, and also some shoddy finishing from United meant they could not find an equaliser.
As a result, United will finish the season with no silverware for the first time since 2022, without European football for next season, and in the bottom-half of the Premier League table.
Here are how the players did on Wednesday:
Andre Onana 5
There were some unconvincing moments from him and the rest of the defence in the first-half, leading to some errors. Probably could have done better for the goal, and was pretty much a spectator following the goal.
Leny Yoro 5
Lost the ball in the first-half after trying to play his way out of trouble. Went close to equalising after a Bruno Fernandes free-kick found him.
Harry Maguire 6
The most assured defender in United's back-three, and expectedly went forward for the final few minutes. Could not get the equaliser.
Luke Shaw 3
He was sloppy in his play and was sluggish whenever he got the ball. He was slow to react for the Johnson goal. It was not the right game to start Shaw and yet he remained on the pitch till the final whistle.
Noussair Mazraoui 5
Solid defensively yet did not offer much going forward. Made some decent recovery challenges.
Casemiro 5
Calm and composed with his play, yet could not add that magical touch. Lost the first European Final of his career.
Bruno Fernandes 4
One of his worst performances of the season came at the most crucial part of the campaign. While he looked to create chances, he was losing the ball way too often and did not inspire the team to go on and win the game. Cut a frustrated figure, and it showed in his display.
Patrick Dorgu 5
Could have done better for the Johnson goal, yet was also one of United's better players when going forward. Needed to deliver better final balls.
Mason Mount 4
Barely made an impact in the game, and was completely marked out of the game.
Amad Diallo 6
United's best forward on the night and was constantly looking to attack Destiny Udogie. His threat died down in the second-half, and seemed tired in the final few minutes.
Rasmus Hojlund 5
Found it difficult to get in the game early on, but in the second-half got his head on the ball before it was cleared off the line. So close, yet so far. Sums up his season.
Substitutions:
Joshua Zirkzee 6
Came on when Ruben Amorim probably would not have wanted to bring him on so early in his recovery, and immediately looked to attack the Tottenham backline more than Hojlund.
Alejandro Garnacho 6
Should have come on much earlier. Did more than Mount did in the 70 minutes he had earlier.
Diogo Dalot 6
Came on after being out due to injury. Delivered some dangerous crosses, to no effect.
Kobbie Mainoo 5
Brought on in the 90th minute and did not have enough time to make an impact.
Manager - Ruben Amorim: 4
Amorim got two vital things wrong on the night: his team selection and the timing of his substitutions. He should have not started Shaw on the night, and should have made his substitutions much, much earlier. The season has now unfolded into a total disaster. The start to next season will be vital for his future.
